Initiated into Hindustani classical vocal music Sanchaita had learnt the rudiments of music from varoius music teachers at a tender age. Later in 1979 she had the great privilege of being accepted as a disciple by Ustad Vilayat Khan and she has been under his tutelage ever since. For years Khan Saheb honed the vocal chords of Sanchaita, bestowing her with the aesthetic nuances of the inimitable "Gayali" style of his maternal 'Ethawah Gherana' that was renowned by great singers like Ustad Bande Hussain Khan, Zinde Husain Khan and Begum Akhtar.
